Last year, participation with the men's overnight shelter was limited to less than 10 volunteers. The ones who actually stayed overnight for the safety of the men numbered four. This year we have already doubled these numbers and we've only been serving the men for three weeks so far. Clearly, many more of us are going "crazy."
Looking forward, we will have the opportunity to "Feed the Need" on May 18th and 19th. The details are being worked out and we are all excitedly anticipating what God is going to do in and through His people.
The changes from before (top picture) to after (bottom picture) will be obvious from the first time someone enters the front (Laporte Ave.) entrance. The "portal" will no longer be visible. In fact, that entire wall will be removed, opening up the view of the entire worship area.
The area in the back, where the couch currently resides, will house the new sound/tech booth for the worship area. Computers, sound board, and lighting will all be moved into this space.
The second sound booth has already been moved into the cafe. This opened up the space for the new baptistery. The space is large enough to install a baptistery, yet small enough that it will require some creative thinking and custom work. Praise God for providing people who know how to do both!
The plans you see in this blog post are already being put together by Rebecca Kersker, an Architectural and Interior Design Student, who is excited to be helping with this project. She has already worked through several design challenges to bring the plans this far. We will be blessed with benefit of her schooling and her willingness to help with the hands-on implementation as she works with us through the summer as a Co-Op.
Crazy changes are happening at Life Bridge. All of them are driven by our Crazy Love for God and for people. His love drives us to love others. Love for others drives us to house the homeless, feed the hungry, and make disciples, baptizing them as He told us to do. I'm looking forward to the crazy changes He's leading us to make. How about you?
