Members and Microchips

Yesterday I got to participate in the celebration Taco Dinner held by the Life Bridge Men's Homeless Shelter Team.  Many of the guys were there to enjoy one last meal together before they start staying at a different for the winter session.  The food was great and so was the company.  I enjoy watching and participating in conversations with the guys.

Two of the conversations led to a question about membership at Life Bridge. One of the men asked me about tithing, because he wanted to be a member (as described at other churches) but didn't have a way to tithe.  Another man at a different table asked about membership, when someone else at his table tried to explain.  "Life Bridge is more concerned with empowering you to be a member of the Body of Christ as a whole.  While you are here participating in activities, you are already a 'member' of Life Bridge."  I enjoyed hearing someone else explain it this time.

Traci and I have been working feverishly on computer stuff for quite awhile now.  We're working extra hours in recent days, weeks, and months because some of the pieces are about to be made available to the public.  I know that some people have been watching us work on these things with confused looks on their faces.  "Why do we care about web sites and computer programs so much?"  What they are seeing, though, are simply two people living out their part of God's plan.

Two electrical engineers, Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce, used their knowledge, skills, and abilities to invent the first integrated circuits and develop the first silicon chip.  Their inventions revolutionized the way we process information.  It fundamentally changed the way we live our lives today.

Traci and I are simply using this technology to meet people were they are and to empower them to walk together with God.  Through technology, we can reach people we would have never been able to reach before.  Through technology we can stay connected with people who move half way around the world.  Technology can allow us to engage, empower, equip, and encourage more people in a more personalized manner, without the limitations of geography, time, or even language.  With technology, we can empower many more than one more to walk together with God.  We can be connected with members of Christ's Body in a very real way...around the world.
